Spring Term

Today the children had a visit from the Animal Club. They bought with them a variety of reptiles for the children to learn about, touch and hold including snakes, bearded dragons, geckos, spiders, scorpions, mantis and tree frogs. The children really loved seeing the animals up close and learning about them. They were extremely brave and pushed themselves out of their comfort zone.

Waterstones World Book Day Trip

Today the children went to the book shop to spend their book tokens. They went on the bus into town and then went into Waterstones and chose their book and paid for it. The children then got the bus home and were really excited with their purchases!

Equipment List

The children have been learning about the job of a Vet. Thinking about the job they did the children thought about the different equipment that they may need to use. The children wrote their ideas down in their books using the Ruth Miskin rhymes to help with formation and the correct pressure and grip.

Representing 1,2,3

Today the children continued their exploration of number and thought about the different ways that numbers can be represented. They spent time using counters to represent numbers 1, 2 and 3 on their five frame and matching the correct numeral to the amount.

Bandaging Animals

This week the children have been exploring the job of a vet. They spent time thinking about all the animals that they help and how they help them. The children then pretended to be vets and spent time bandaging the poorly animals to make them feel better.

Pet Collage

This week the children are learning about the job of a vet. Working as a class the children made their own pet collage. They spent time cutting out the different types of animals that they thought pets looked after and then added it to their collage. They were extremely proud of the end result.

One less

After spending time looking at the term 'one more' the children moved on to looking at 'one less'. They began by singing the song 'Five Little Speckled Frogs'. The children then made towers out of cubes using blocks. As the song was sang again they took away a block and then shared with their peers what number they had left.

Body Parts

The children thought about the jobs of the Doctors and Nurses and how they help us. They spent time discussing the different parts of the body that hurt and when people go to the Doctors & Nurses. They wrote down the correct names for the different parts of the body to match the pictures. The children used the Ruth Miskin rhymes to help with formation and ensuring that they use the appropriate grip and pressure.

One More

The children focused on the concept of one more. They spent time counting the firefighters and then added one more. They used 1:1 counting to check their answers.

Handprint Firefighter

Today the children finished up their week by making a handprint firefighter scene. They began with painting their hands different colours to represent the uniform and the faces. They printed these. next they drew faces and a hose and water to complete their creation.

1,2,3

The children continued their exploration of number and thought about the different ways that numbers can be made. They spent time making the numbers 2-5 using numicon.

PE

The children had great fun in PE today. They spent time exploring the different gymnastics equipment and moving and jumping in different ways. They slid and balanced along benches, jumped from heights and climbed through wall bars. The children worked so hard to overcome their fears snd challenge themselves.

Firefighter Hat

Today the children thought about the initial sound of their name. They spent time identifying it and then wrote it on their firefighters’ hats. The children used Ruth Miskin rhymes to help with formation and the appropriate tripod grip and pressure.

Fingerprints

This week the children are focusing on the job of a Police Officer. They spent time learning about their job and different ways they can identify people. The children then went on to explore fingerprints and that they are unique to every person so Police can use this to identify someone. The children then had a go at printing their own fingerprints and comparing them to their peers.

Name Writing

Today the children focused on their name writing. They spent time writing their names using a writing pencil. The children focused on their pressure, grip and formation. They were encouraged to use the Ruth Miskin rhymes to help with formation.

Birds

The children began to talk about their topic this term- birds. They began the lesson by talking about the different ways birds move and replicating their movements. They then discussed the different parts of a bird and what they use them for. The children then coloured in and decorated their own birds.

Pop Up Play Village

Today the children had a visit from Erica at the Pop Up Play Village. They spent time pretending to build on the construction site, shop at the supermarket, cut and style hair at the hairdressers and help patients at the hospital. They had a great time!

Owl Feelings

This week the children have been exploring the story ‘Owl Babies’. They spent time looking at the different characters and the main events of the story. Today the children spent time thinking about how the owls were feeling when Mum flew off. They wrote down their ideas using the appropriate pencil grip and Ruth Miskin rhymes to help with formation.

Owl Collage

This week the children are focusing on the story 'Owl Babies'. They identified the different characters in the story and then spent time recreating them. They used a variety of different textures and materials to make the owls and worked together sticking it down to make their masterpiece.
