Sensory Walk

This week the children have completed a focused book week. They spent time focusing on the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. They spent time making bear masks, story maps, completing sensory walks, shape bears and making bear caves from construction materials. They also spent time learning about bears and where different bears lived.

Our Body

This week the children have been learning about their bodies. The children began by discussing their different body parts and then they drew a picture of themselves and labelled it. They then made their own funny ones inspired skeletons using cotton buds.

Emotions

This week the children focused on their emotions. They spent time discussing the different emotions that they may feel and why they may feel that way. They used the story ‘Colour Monster’ to scaffold their thinking and then made their own emotions biscuits for their favourite emotion.

Senses

Before completing their senses investigation, the children focused on labelling and identifying their senses independently. They were given pictures of the different senses which they then had to label and name which part of the body it uses. They conducted a senses investigation using a variety of different foods. They looked at it, smelt it, touched it and tasted it and as a class recorded words they could use to describe each food.

Look at the fabulous homework we have been doing!

Elmer

After reading the story Elmer the children then made their own version as a class. They spent time creating their part using a variety of colour and collage to create their desired effect.

Barley

The children were surprised with a visit from our school therapy dog Barley today. They spent time learning how to behave around him and how to stroke him appropriately so that they remained respectfully towards him.

Stickman

Today the children read the story ‘Stickman’. They spent time discussing the different members of Stickman family and then talked about their own. The children then created their own stickman and wrote their name.

Settling In

Nursery have enjoyed their first week back. They have spent time making new relationships, exploring the setting and getting to grips with the routines and boundaries. They have spent their time getting involved in imaginative play, dress up, IT, messy play and arts & crafts.
